"Highly recommended - used 3 times and delighted on each occasion We have worked with AM Architect on three occasions now - the complete renovation of a dilapidated listed Georgian townhouse, building a new house and extending & modernising a Victorian semi-detached house. The fact that we have returned to Andy on each occasion is evidence of the high regard in which we hold him. All of our projects had challenges - and all of them were quite different - and Andy's breadth of knowledge of regulations (including Historic Scotland), alternative building materials and techniques was invaluable. He works well with the other members of the team, is quick to respond and doesn't get flustered when things don't go to plan (sadly they don't always!). Of particular note is the design he came up with for our new build house - an odd shaped plot in a city centre. Andy designed a 3-bed, 2-bath house with integral garage with all of the main rooms overlooking the garden. Once inside, you would hardly know you were 5 minutes from the high street."

"We had a good idea of what we wanted to achieve with the renovation of an existing outside storeroom, garage and carport. The storeroom was to be adapted into a utility room with direct access from the existing house. Space was to be provided for fridges, freezer, laundry facilities and stairway access to the existing attic. The existing flat-roofed garage and carport were to be renovated with a pitched roof and could be combined into a double garage. We did not have much knowledge of building costs or how to bring our ideas to fruition. We investigated the availability of architects in the local area and contacted AM Architect after reading favourable reviews. From the outset AM Architect approached the project in a professional manner and transformed our idea into a viable design. It was understood that there was a limited budget and the project was planned around this. AM Architect provided a full service including specification, engineering drawings, handling of statutory matters, selection of builders, arrangement of contract, management of health and safety issues and weekly oversight of the works during the construction phase. The end result was a project finished to our satisfaction, completed in a reasonable timeframe and close to budgeted cost. Suffice it to say that we would have no hesitation in recommending AM Architect to anyone requiring such services."

"This was the second occasion that we have worked with Andy. The first was a renovation of a Georgian house; this was the construction of a new, contemporary house.
As before, Andy was an absolute pleasure to work with. It was some way into the job before I realised what a complicated project we had undertaken – the site was small and irregularly shaped; being city centre, access was difficult; and, typical of Perth, the ground was soft. Andy’s design is simply outstanding. The layout of the house has been cleverly arranged and, once inside, you are surprised at how spacious and light the rooms are. As all of the main windows overlook the garden, it creates a sense of privacy and it is easy to forget you are in the centre of Perth.
Inevitably due to the nature of the site, there were challenges along the way. Andy approached them pragmatically and intelligently, always dealing with the builders and contractors with reassuring efficiency. We will certainly work with Andy again and would not hesitate to recommend him."

"We worked with Andy on the renovation of a 4-storey, 4,500 square foot Georgian townhouse in the centre of Perth. The property had fallen into disrepair and had been separated into several offices and a flat. Right from the outset, we were impressed by Andy’s attention to detail and forward thinking about the next steps in the project.
Inevitably with a building of that age and in that condition, unexpected issues occurred along the way which we then added to by changing our own plans for the house which required a new design and re-submission of planning approval. Throughout the planning and building stages, Andy was patient with us and a calm influence. We particularly note the creative vision he brought to the project and his ability to work within the constraints and sometimes frustrations of Historic Scotland.
When you employ an architect, you take for granted their knowledge of applicable rules and regulations. The listed building aspects of our project added to the complexity and Andy was faultless in his knowledge of what could and couldn’t be done. He had clearly built up a good rapport with the planning team at the council and the dialogue he was able to have with them was highly beneficial. In addition, Andy has a strong network of local contacts which proved to be a great help. Something that we hadn’t considered when we began the project was the interaction between the architect and the builders but again Andy’s attention to detail and calmness when things didn’t go quite to plan, along with a charming personality, contributed to a good relationship with all involved in the building works.
We are currently working with Andy on a new build project, also in the centre of Perth, and we would have no hesitation recommending him."
