Retail Warehouse, Hermiston Gait, Edinburgh
Andy was Project Architect on the new B&Q Warehouse at Hermiston Gait whilst working at Keppie Design Ltd. The design follows the B&Q model in most respects but out of a desire to make the frontage more open, the offices and cafe were moved to the front to create more visual interest and glazing. The normal solid bays were opened up too with glazed panels to create an open and light feel. the entrance tower rather than sitting only on th efronatge sits over tha facade and spills light into the interior as well as acting as a beacon announcing the building to passers by. 'I worked closely with Andy from 2005-2009 when he was Project Architect for Keppie on the B&Q Warehouse at Hermiston Gait in Edinburgh. Andy is diligent and thorough in all he does, ensuring the preparation of design and construction information prepared in good time and to an excellent standard. His attention to detail and understanding of the project brief were excellent. He built good professional relationships with myself, B&Q, the design team, the contractor and the various statutory officials based on clear information exchange and discussion. This made all our jobs easier and allowed the successful delivery of an exemplary project. He was proactive when faced with the challenge of a scheme or detailed redesign whether from change instigated by client, end user or contractor. In both design and site progress meetings he was well prepared and dealt with others and issues in a relaxed and understanding manner with just the right amount of humour where appropriate. His management of the design team and design process on my behalf were second to none. Building projects can be complicated and stressful and whilst this was also true of the B&Q Hermiston Gait project, Andy's attitude and diligence helped make the process enjoyable from sketch design to delivery of the completed building.' Andrew was the Project Architect and lead design consultant for the full duration from inception and planning to construction through to completion and building control sign off. Throughout the delivery of the project, we found Andrew to be professional and efficient with an excellent aptitude for performing the architectural duties from project inception to completion. As the lead design consultant Andrew was key to the project being delivered successfully.' Archie Learmonth - Associate Director. CBA, Chartered Quantity Surveyors |
